This week's song Dreamtime is track #10 from disc #1 of my new album It Was All Just a Dream. This dreamy song has evolved quite a bit from its initial incarnation, starting its life over 25 years ago as a purely synthesizer-based ambient song. This final version has all of the synthesizers stripped away in favor of a single piano supporting the ethereal guitar melodies (maybe I should have called this one "Ethereal" 🤣). While the arrangement may be a bit stripped down, the mix is full and punchy, and the melody is the clear star of the show.
The lead guitar parts on this song were all played on my TigerLuv Guitars custom Chiron designed and built for me by my friend Jeremiah Augustine. The neck of this guitar was crafted from a centuries old piece of native Hawaiian 'Ohia wood, making this a truly unique and irreplaceably special instrument. The rhythm parts were played on another special custom guitar, my Sully Guitars US Custom 625 and my Fender Telecaster.
As with so many of the songs in this collection, all of the parts were played through my Mesa Boogie Mark V:25. But with this song, most of the parts used the "Fat" voice to get that chimey, edge of break-up, pushed sound. For the couple parts that are a bit more distorted, those were using the IIC+ voice.
