2024-Oct-19 - Juxtaposition

This week's randomly selected song is Juxtaposition, track #11 from disc #2 from my latest 3-CD release It Was All Just a Dream.
Juxtaposition was first released as the title track from my 2017 album Juxtaposition. I then re-recorded all of the guitars and bass for the song's re-release on my 2022 album Juxtaposition Reimagined. This final version features new drums and new production.
“Juxtaposition” is defined as "the fact of two things being seen or placed close together with contrasting effect".
I named this song after the various instances of juxtaposition within the song itself, but I also ended up naming the entire 2017 album the same thing due to the juxtaposition of so many different musical styles found across all of the songs on the album.
Juxtaposition starts off with a couple of 70s/80s hard rock influenced riffs. But as soon as the verse comes in, the style immediately changes to more of a fusion vibe. Then the chorus features some harmonized lead guitars playing over a 70s R&B bass & funky clean guitar motif. When the song reaches the bridge, it's an all-out wah-wah soaked funk party. The funk gives way to a swirly ambient breakdown that leads into the guitar solo that switches back and forth between major and minor feel. It's a lot of juxtaposition! I tried my best to make the song feel like a cohesive whole by relying heavily on transitions and a consistent groove.

I used a total of 4 guitars on this track. The crunchy rhythm guitar parts were played two guitars. The first was my custom swirled Ibanez RG470 played through my Synergy Amps ENGL Savage. The second was my Solar S2.6 played through my Synergy Amps 800. All of the clean guitar parts were played on my TigerLuv custom Chiron through my Synergy Amps Fryette Deliverance. And finally all of the lead parts were played on my Sully Guitars US Custom 622 through my trusty Mesa Boogie Mark V:25 using the Mark IV voice.
You can listen to this song as well as the entire 44 song collection right here on the website! If you love what you hear and want to support the music I make, please consider purchasing this album on CD or digital download. I will gladly personalize and autograph your copy.
