2024-Dec-14 - Marci

This week's randomly selected song Marci is track #4 from disc #1 of my triple CD album It Was All Just a Dream.
I wrote the first version of the song Marci in 1999. I was trying to write a sequel to my song Clouds from my unreleased 1998 album Kosmos. But this new song really didn't ever feel connected to Clouds. The year was 1999, and I met and fell in love with a beautiful young woman named Marci. The song felt much more like a love ballad than a song about clouds, so I leaned into that direction, and I named the song after her.
The early versions of this song really didn't have much in the way of melody. But in 2016 when I was adapting a bunch of my old songs for my debut release, I decided to include Marci, but I decided it needed a much more pronounced melodic component, so I wrote new melodies for both the verses and choruses. When I was redoing the song for It Was All Just a Dream, I had just gotten a new nylon string guitar, and after a few experiments, it was clear that this guitar was perfect for the song. I also simplified the arrangement a bit so that the most important parts of the song weren't getting lost in too many layers.

The ambient, clean electric guitar parts were all played on my Fender Telecaster through the Fat voice of my Mesa Boogie Mark V:25. The nylon string guitar parts were all played on my Ibanez TOD10N guitar. This guitar was recorded direct using the onboard piezo pickup. The overdriven lead guitar parts in the second half of the song were played on my Sully 625 US Custom through my Mesa Boogie Mark V:25 on the IIC+ voice.
You can listen to this song as well as the entire 44 song collection right here on the website! If you love what you hear and want to support the music I make, please consider purchasing this album on CD or digital download. I will gladly personalize and autograph your copy.
