2024-Sep-21 - Moonlight

This week's randomly selected song is Moonlight, the only song on the entire 44-song triple CD album that I didn't write. The original composer was a moody German fellow named Ludwig who had an unmatched knack for writing hauntingly beautiful melodies. You probably know him better by his last name, Beethoven.
I first recorded a version of Moonlight on my unreleased 2000 album Ethereal, and the song would eventually find its way onto my 2016 debut release Legacy. This final arrangement of Moonlight is a bit more stripped down with minimal synthesizer parts, making it primarily a guitar + piano + bass + drums arrangement.
I've always loved the subtle simplicity of the melody and rippling arpeggios from movement #1, Adagio, from Beethoven's Piano Sonata #14 in C♯ Minor, more commonly known as Moonlight Sonata. I've always felt like the title Moonlight combined with the beauty of the music painted the perfect mental image of moonlight reflecting on water, so I tried to capture that imagery in my execution of the melody on the guitar.

There is only one single guitar part on this recording, and it was played on my Ibanez S5521Q through my Mesa Boogie Mark V:25.
You can listen to this song as well as the entire 44 song collection right here on the website! If you love what you hear and want to support the music I make, please consider purchasing this album on CD or digital download. I will gladly personalize and autograph your copy.
