2024-Nov-30 - Racing The Wind

This week's randomly selected song Racing The Wind is track #8 from disc #1 of my triple CD album It Was All Just a Dream.

Racing The Wind has seen many iterations, even prior to its inclusion on my first unreleased 1998 album Kosmos. While I don't have any recordings of the initial ideas, I remember the very first versions of the song being primarily in a major key, and being a bit more happy-go-lucky. Likely as a result of events in my life at the time, by the time Kosmos was recorded in 1998, the song had evolved into a bit darker minor sound. While the 1998 version was a very synthesizer-heavy song, by the time it made it onto my debut 2016 release Legacy, I had converted the main melodic lines into guitar parts. But the arrangement for Racing The Wind on Legacy was still very dense and synth-heavy. So for the final version on It Was All Just a Dream, I re-recorded the entire song, and I decided to strip down the arrangement to what could reasonably be performed by a small band.
Prior to my 1998 recording of the Kosmos album, Racing The Wind was an untitled song. I just couldn't think of what to call it. It wasn't until I was driving one day on the freeway on a rare uncrowded stretch listening to the song when I happened to notice that I was seemingly pacing the shadows of the overhead clouds. I thought to myself that I was racing the wind. And with that particular song playing while this was happening the song title was born!
The clean backing guitar parts were played on my TigerLuv custom Chiron and Fender Telecaster. And my lead parts were played on a combination of my Sully 622 and 625 US Custom guitars. All of the parts were played through my Mesa Boogie Mark V:25 amp using the Fat and IIC+ voices.

You can listen to this song as well as the entire 44 song collection right here on the website! If you love what you hear and want to support the music I make, please consider purchasing this album on CD or digital download. I will gladly personalize and autograph your copy.
