2024-Nov-09 - Stomp
This week's randomly selected song is Stomp, track #11 from disc #3 of my album It Was All Just a Dream. The original version of Stomp was released on my 2019 album Electric Sky. This final version features a dramatically improved mix and brand new drums.
Stomp started its life as a simple riff, and that felt like a great starting point for a Led Zeppelin / Joe Bonamassa inspired blues rock jam. And a jam it was! Stomp was my very first foray into collaborating with musicians over a distance, even though 2/3 of the guest soloists on this song live within 20 miles of me. It was really just kind of an experiment to see if it was even possible. And man oh man, it turned out so much better than I had hoped for.

The solos contributed by Tom Atkins, Trever Veilleux, and Gardner De Aguiar blew me away! I knew all of these guitarists were fantastic players, and they still surpassed all expectations. I gotta tell ya, I'm a lucky guy to know so many incredible musicians!
I played my lead parts on two different guitars, my Ibanez RG6PCM and RG5120M, and the rhythm parts were distributed among a formidable trio: my Gibson Les Paul Standard, Ibanez J. Custom RG8571, and Fender American Elite Stratocaster. And of course, all of my parts were played through my Mesa Boogie Mark V:25.
